While beating Notre Dame was earth-shattering, Navy’s football season wouldn’t have been complete had it not ended with a good, thorough whipping of Army this afternoon, 38-3. That’s six years in a row now, and the Commander in Chief’s Trophy will remain in Annapolis another year, since Navy also dispatched Air Force this year. Next up, a bid in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, a classic Navy town that will turn out well to see the Mids on the Gridiron. The Poinsettia Bowl’s conference tie-in is with the Mountain West; they’re supposed to get dibs of the team that finishes second there. If there are no surprises this afternoon, that would be Air Force. I would think an all service academy bowl game would be a magnificent event. Not sure if bowl organizers or the Athletic Directors at Navy and Air Force will agree or not. I hope they do!
